The mares are the heart of our program
Our name, Rancho de la Diosa, is an homage to our mares. Las madres, las diosas, las reinas. These regal beings are the beating heart of our program, the energetic center point of our ranch, and deeply beloved creative partners. Each of them were carefully handpicked from around the world to gather together the most unique herd of PRE mares in existence here at our beautiful ranch.
We truly believe that the mares are equally important, if not more so, in breeding and should be treated as such. All of our mares participate in regular training both at liberty and under saddle (at appropriate ages), are handled daily, receive carefully tailored nutrition, and live wonderful fulfilling lives on our track system in a peaceful and loving herd. Nurturing confident, fulfilled mares with a deep desire to connect to their handlers carry that on through to the next generation.
Living Unbridled
The mares deeply enjoy frolicking in the inner pastures of our track system, a natural style of horsekeeping that maximizes natural movement over varied terrain, while increasing enrichment via a variety of interactive stations around the track including multiple hay stations, minerals, a water buffet, and interactive enrichment stations, and more.
Zaha GT
I fell in love with this mare when she was a foal in Spain, enthralled by her unique markings and mesmerizing eyes. Now, she graces our fields and our hearts with her beauty and grace. Truly the grounded matriarch of the herd, she has a stately and peaceful way of being that commands appreciation.
Zaha is the only Splash White PRE mare in the United States and one of a select few who is inscribed in the ANCCE studbook. Her color, while special, is far from the most important aspect she brings to the table. She stamps her babies with her bravery and friendliness, floating movement, spectacular head, and substantial bone. Her eagerness to engage and her trainability make her a delightful partner and her offspring are following closely in her hoof prints.
2016. 16.1 hands. Bay with nd1, Splash White. Color testing pending. Panel tested clear. Calificado lineage.
Impetuosa EC
The daughter of our dunskin stallion Canelo, Impetuosa (known around the farm as Atenea) is a breathtaking young mare who takes after her father in so many ways, including her rare color. She is one of only a handful of dunskin PRE mares in the world, but once again, her color is only a fantastic bonus on top of everything else she embodies.
Always the first to meet anyone who enters the ranch, her unparalleled bravery and curiosity knows no bounds. When other horses might hang back and watch, she has to investigate everything, bold in the face of uncertainty and yet not brash - she maintains a beautiful sensitivity that allows her to be a brilliant learner. Her expressive movement captivates anyone who watches her, and her striking face atop her elegant neck is truly remarkable.
2020. 16 hands. EE AA Cr/cr D/nd1. Panel tested clear. Calificado and Mejorante lineage.
Juliana JAM
The incredibly rare smokey grulla daughter of Canelo, Juliana JAM is known around the ranch as Ciela (meaning heavenly). This little jewel of a filly is such a darling that she makes everyone she meets fall in love. Gentle and self-assured, Ciela has a very special air about her that is magnified by her astounding beauty. Her quiet nature and exquisitely communicative way of connecting has already set her apart and allowed us to form a beautiful bond that makes everything with her completely effortless. She is truly a one in a million.
Smokey grulla, or black dun carrying cream, is a remarkably beautiful coloration, and the most rare of the dun variants within the PRE breed. With her fathers statuesque face and floating movement, correct build and exceptional temperament, we are beyond excited for this athletic young filly to mature into a beautiful mare.
2022. Expected to mature to 15.2 hands. EE aa Cr/cr D/nd2. Panel tested clear. Calificado lineage.
Isabela JG
One brief glance of this beautiful black pearl in a dark and blurry video was all it took to get me on a plane to go and meet her as a young filly. I was already in love, and from that day forward she has grown into everything I had hoped for and more. Isabela JG (known around the ranch as Cybele) is a black based Isabella (double pearl), one of the most rare dilute colors in all breeds.
This enchanting young mare embodies everything we look for in our program - extraordinarily baroque, balanced body, expressive movement on top of being breathtakingly beautifully colored. Cybele is outgoing and kind, curious and sweet beyond all else. She will often greet me by placing her head in my arms and staying there for minutes on end, softly breathing into my hands as I hold her. Her tender, loving nature and her deep devotion to her herd (both horse and human) is obvious to all who meet her.
2019. 15.2 hands. EE aa Prl/Prl nd1/nd1. Panel tested clear. Calificado lineage.
Esmeralda JG
The younger of our “pearl twins”, Esmeralda JG (lovingly known as Rhea around the ranch) is 3/4 sister to our lovely Cybele (Isabela JG). You can almost always find them together, like pearlescent shadows reflecting each other.
Rhea is such a special soul, tender and quiet with a deeply loving spirit. Tall and substantial with a beautiful balanced body and expressive movement. Her canter in particular is remarkable, and we are excited to see her excel in dressage in her future.
2020. 16.1 hands. EE AA Prl/Prl nd1/nd1. Panel tested clear. Multiple Calificado Lineage.
