Canelo de Trujillo

2010 imported Dunskin ANCCE approved stallion

Canelo was born to make history. Truly a one in a million horse, he was imported from Spain as a two year old. It wasn’t known at the time but he was the first Dun stallion in the United States, one of less than 5 in the entire world and would become the progenitor of all Dun gene PRE horses in the United States. This incredibly rare stallion is the horse of my dreams. It is an unbelievable honor to be his guardian, along with his offspring who are a crowning jewel in my mare herd.

Beyond his rarity as a color producer, Canelo is an incredible sire: a consistent producer of bold, balanced, quality offspring who inherit his trainability and spectacular movement as well as his Dun genetics. Witnessing him is like seeing a baroque statue come to life, his incredible stature and presence is breathtaking. Canelo is a brilliant riding partner, being developed in classical dressage and solidly schooling all of PSG as well as having a remarkable ability for piaffe and passage. He is also being developed at liberty, and is proving to be able to stay connected even in the midst of a working ranch.

His temperament is beyond compare - kind and empathetic, he is communicative and bold, and very obviously loves his humans. He shares a fence line with our other stallion and geldings, who he adores. Its a testament to his gentle nature that as a well established breeding stallion he is able to live amongst mares, foals, and other stallions and all live in harmony.
